Maintaining My Blonde Hair

First and foremost, I want to apologize for my weeks absence on my blog. I have been busy packing for Norfolk and sorting out all those last minute details, blogging had to take a back seat. However now I am finally settled expect to see a considerable more amount of content on Too Primadonna.

For this weeks post we are going to be talking about hair, in particular blonde hair. I have had my fair share of hair colours over the past few years and the most difficult one to maintain for me personally (except bright red) is a honey blonde toned colour. Last summer I had blonde hair and I will fully admit it looked awful, I did not understand the importance of toner and the actual colour being far too light for my very pale complexion. A month ago I decided to take the blonde plunge again and this time do it properly. Today I am going to be sharing how I maintain both the tone and health of my hair and recommending my go to products.

My blonde hair

Toning

I cannot express the importance of toning and I do not know why I did not do it before. Toning is a process of taking those brassy and orange hues out of blonde hair whilst leaving ashy or warm tones. I tone my hair using the Bleach London Purple Shampoo, obviously this is a shampoo but due to the highly pigmented purple colouring can be also used to tone. Once every two weeks I will apply this to damp hair, wrap my hair up in cellophane and go carry out my day for 45 minutes until it needs to be washed out. This always takes away any emerging brassiness and leaves my colouring looking fresh. A little bit of this shampoo goes a long way so do not be put off by the price and small bottle! It is my holy grail for toning my hair!

In between those two weeks I still like to prevent that brassiness from coming back by using the Provoke Brightening Shampoo, it is not as strong but is great for when I want a quick fix in between toning. I do find it to be a little drying but that is nothing a little conditioner can't solve!

My go to products for toning

Moisture

It is no secret that bleach dries hair out and I personally bleach my roots every 6 weeks so moisture is something I like to focus on. I have very long hair which has taken me a while to grow so I am not ok with bleach suddenly ruining my length. To prevent the damage I like to opt for moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. My favourite conditioner to use is the Bleach London Purple conditioner, it is aimed at blondes so it already contains ingredients to help any damage done by bleaching. I usually leave it for 10 minutes as a hair mask then wash out, my hair always feels so silky and less damaged after using this!

I also occasionally like to put a little coconut oil in my hair as a deep cleansing mask, this always makes my hair feel soft and makes it less frizzy when it is washed out!

My go to shampoo and conditioners

Finishing Products

When drying my hair, I usually let it air dry to not cause anymore damage however when I do, I opt for a protective styling spray. I love the one from PS, it protects my hair but is also not too heavy. One of my pet peeves with sprays is when you can feel the product weighing your hair down, this one just soaks into the hair and still allows for volume.

The only daily regime with my hair that I always do is applying a little argon oil to ends, my hair is very long so breakage can occur more easily. Since adding this to my routine, I have noticed a massive difference to the condition of my hair and find it grows quicker.

The argon oil I use daily

And that concludes all the steps in maintaining my blonde, this is the routine that has worked out great for my hair so I thought some of these products might also help out a fellow blonde!

Do you have any hair recommendations?
