My 2017 Goals Updated

Let's admit this, we all set goals at the beginning of the year. Some we strive towards, others we drop within months. Today I wanted to look back on my goals that I set myself at the beginning of the year and reflect on whether they have changed or stayed the same. We're officially half way through the year so I thought now is the perfect time to check up on what past Shannon set herself.

In my previous post I mentioned how I wanted to improve my grade and work harder towards my degree. In 2016 I let my health get the better of me, I did pass but I felt I could of got a higher grade had I worked harder. This is the only goal I can 100% I have accomplished already. Last week I was awarded a 2.1 for the second year of my Fashion Management course. I really pushed myself and super happy that I managed to improve my grade by 14%. My aim now is to achieve a first in my final year!

Work Placement

This was the objective that I set myself which I have completely dropped. I was studying a degree where a work placement year was really pushed on us. After attending interviews and receiving two offers I decided a work placement was not for me. It would have meant moving to London which I do not feel personally prepared for and meant I would be studying until 2019. The main truth was I was unhappy with the degree I was studying, I want to be involved with PR and create things. Something my course has not offered me and lacked on massively. I was presented with the option of transferring to another course called International Fashion Business which suits me better as a person and I am genuinely excited to study. I also have a mini job in marketing and I am studying a summer course in Events Plannings. A placement is just something I did not want to do and now I am genuinely happy with my choices and where I am in terms of progressing towards my dream career.

My overall aim at the start of the year was to take blogging a bit more seriously and raise my blog up a level. This was and still is an ongoing aim of mine which I feel I am working towards. I started by posting once a month then around April started posting once a week, a major improvement from last year where I rarely uploaded. I have also been doing more collaborations this year and have started to see an increase in engagement. So far this aim is going well and something I am always striving for.

I was so set on this at the start of the year, I had a tripod, lighting system ect prepared and I was ready to upload but Youtube did not just happen for me. There is two main reasons as to why. First off I have been so busy, second year was quite demanding and also keeping up with my blogging was very time consuming. Secondly I got too nervous to upload, I filmed one video and just could not upload because I thought I would get judged so much by people who know me. This might be a future aim again but for now Youtube is taking a backseat.

My last and most important aim was to overcome anxiety. I am very open and honest about mental health on my blog so I will admit that my anxiety has actually become worse. I put it down to stress and my health but with the support of some amazing friends I am doing fine. I am constantly trying to figure out some ways to control it which means experimenting on a trial and error basis. I plan to do a whole post on anxiety so let me know if this is something you would be interested in.

Overall the past few months have actually been great in terms of my achievements and blogging. Re-evaluating them has made me feel more confident and content with the career path I am taking.

Do you set yourself yearly goals?

  14. It so nice to see people making goals and genuinely working towards them! I've come to realize that I'm the kind of person who makes goals and doesn't do any of them, and as a result, I've stopped setting up goals altogether, but this was really nice to read and made me want to at least try something similar!
Congrats on achieving and I hope you continue to do so :)
